As I read Proverbs 23, I'm reminded of the famous passage in Proverbs 4:23, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." Proverbs 23 is a reminder for us to "double the guard" on our hearts. This Sunday, we will unpack the very things that we need to avoid so that we might not put our hearts in jeopardy.
There is a thread that runs through the Book of Proverbs that is the key to wisdom. This thread has nothing to do with knowledge, wealth or power. The key to wisdom is humility. Just look at these two verses alone: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Proverbs 9:10) and "Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what what the Lord’s will is.” (Ephesians 5:15-17). Join us Sunday as we tug on this thread and unpack Proverbs 30, while discovering it is wise to be humble.
This week, as we dive into Proverbs 16, two themes emerge—PLANS and SPEECH. We will look at how our plans and speech matter and how they glorify God in blessing those around us.
Proverbs 9:10 tells us, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight." As we continue to read a proverb a day, we see themes that are repeated throughout scripture. The fear of the Lord is one. We will see the way of wisdom in Proverbs 9 and we will learn that when we follow Jesus, we should never take offense but instead receive in love all Godly instruction and reproof.
This week we will explore the benefits of wisdom. Come read Proverbs 2 with us and see what wisdom you can apply to your daily life.
