We close out our sermon series in 2 Timothy by looking at what are probably Paul's final words. Paul encourages Timothy and all of us by saying, "In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word ...." Paul inspires Timothy to continue in spreading the Gospel, to fan into flame the calling that was upon his life. We, as followers of Jesus, are called to that same mission. Join us Sunday as we pick up the baton and continue to advance the Good News of Jesus.
Have you ever had such a bad day that you felt like going back to bed and restarting it all over again? Or have you ever attempted to do something so tough, so difficult, that you wanted to throw in the towel and just give up?
Paul saw this happen in the ministry to several people, time and time again. In his letters, Paul encouraged Timothy to persist in serving the Lord and preaching the Gospel by saying, "But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it."
Join us Sunday as we encourage you to fan into flame this precious gift that God has given to us by simply refusing to give up on Jesus and the mission He has set before all of us.
This past Sunday, we asked the question, "Who was the person that shared the Gospel with you?" I don't know if you've ever thought about this, but for 2,000 years, the Good News about Jesus has been passed down from person to person. And all along the way, Satan has tried his best to keep this message from reaching the next generation. So how do we protect this precious gift entrusted to us?
Perhaps this is what Paul was thinking of when he wrote in 2 Timothy 2:1-2, "You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." This Sunday, we will unpack ways that we can preserve the Gospel for the next generation.
In His last letter to his young protege, Paul encourages Timothy to continue to preach the Word in the church in Ephesus, saying, " . . . I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline."
This Sunday, we will examine why these are great words for us to live by.
