This Sunday, we will wrap a nice little bow on our study of Ruth. Interestingly enough, the book of Ruth is really not about Ruth; it's about God's redemptive plan. Not a big surprise given that all of scripture is a story about God's redeeming mankind. We will see the culmination of God's blessings in the son that God gave to Boaz and Ruth. Ruth 4:21-22 says, "Boaz the father of Obed, 22 Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David." Yes, David: This family line stretches all the way to Jesus. What an incredible redemption story!
This Sunday's sermon could be brought to you by the Hallmark Channel. If you love to snuggle up in a good blanket, with a cup of coffee and a Hallmark movie, then you will be familiar with this part of Ruth's story. Amidst this love story, we will focus on the blessings of God. His blessings are evident in hope that God gives us and in the righteousness of both Ruth and Boaz. So this Sunday, bring your favorite blanket, fill your cup at the cafe in the lobby, and experience a true-to-life, Biblical Hallmark special.
Oftentimes, trusting God means taking action and doing something to change your situation. That’s what we discover in Ruth 2, as Ruth goes into the fields owned by Boaz to glean leftover barley. This week, we will look at how God gives us the freedom to act and how He moves in our situations.
This Sunday, we will begin to unpack the book of Ruth. We will discover that despite making poor decisions and having to endure the consequences, Ruth and Naomi enjoyed the incredible grace of God. This same grace is available to us today. So join us Sunday as we begin our study of Ruth.
