This Sunday we will close out our sermon series by looking at God's purpose for our lives. In Jeremiah 29:11, the Lord says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." The Lord knows our purpose even if we are unsure about what the future holds. This Sunday we will discover that our purpose, our future is wrapped up in Jesus.
This Sunday we will unpack the identity that we have in Christ. For years, people have asked the age-old question, "Who am I?" In Ephesians 1 Paul answers this question by using words like adopted, accepted, and redeemed. God knows who we are, and He has gone to great links to give us a truly incredible identity in Him.
Did you know that God knows your heart, better than you know your heart? The scriptures tell us that there is nothing that is hidden from the Lord's sight. He knows us inside and out. In Matthew 15:18-19 Jesus says, "But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts." All of us have a heart "condition", and the Lord knows the true status of our heart.
This Sunday we will begin a brand new sermon series where we will unpack what it means to be known by God. When we think about it, is this what we want, to be known by others, especially God. John Piper writes, “Deeper than knowing God is being known by God." Jesus expresses how well we are known by God in Luke 12 where He says that God knows the number of hairs on our head. This Sunday we will unpack what it means that God knows our name.
